Here are some properties of solvent that are beneficial for extraction of solvent -

1. The solute which is desired must mix or dissolve completely in the solvent which is to be extracted.

2. The solvent must not mix or dissolve in the solution from where the solute is taken out.

3. We can apply the method of extraction of liquid-liquid for extraction of solvent.

The properties of the solvent used for solvent extraction are as follows:

1. The solvent should be well miscible with the liquid to be extracted.

2. The solvent should not be miscible with the other components of the mixture or react with the solute.

3. The boiling point of the solvent should be low enough ( well below the melting point of the solute) such that it can be evaporated easily after collection.

4. It should have a favourable temperature coefficient.
