H2O is polar, whereas BeF2 is not. It is because
(a) The electronegativity of F is greater than that of O
(b) H2O involves hydrogen bonding whereas BeF2 is a discrete molecules
(c) H2O is linear and BeF2 is angular
(d) H2O is angular and BeF2 is linear.

answer option (d)H2O is angular and BeF2 is linear.

in BeF2 the dipole moment is zero as BeF2 is linear is shape. whereas H2O has a net dipole moment which is caused due to the bond moment and the lone pair moment . therefore H2O is polar whereas BeF2 is not.
