in BeF2 the dipole moment is zero as BeF2 is linear is shape.

whereas H2O has a net dipole moment which is caused due to the bond moment and the lone pair moment .

therefore H2O is polar whereas BeF2 is not.

H_2 O has a high bond when compared with BeF_2. Hence H_2 O is polar BeF_2 is non-polar.

Explanation:

  • The polar molecule mainly depends on its shape and molecular structure. For H_2 O it is vertical and hence it is a polar molecule. H_2 O has no dipolar moment and it has a long pair moment.
  • BeF_2 is the linear shape and hence it has a dipole moment. But H_2 O has no dipolar moment and it has a long pair moment.
