Answer:

This is a redox (reduction - oxidation reaction)

Here,

H2S - Hydrogen sulfide

Cl2 - Chlorine

HCl - Hydrochloric acid

S - Sulphur

In this reaction,

H2S is oxidized as Hydrogen is removed from H2S ; Cl2 is oxidising agent because it takes hydrogen atom from H2S to form 2Hcl + S

Cl2 is reduced as Hydrogen is added to it ; H2S is reducing agent because it's Hydrogen atom is added to Cl2 to form 2Hcl + S.

Oxidation is addition of Oxygen or removal of Hydrogen to/from any molecule or atom.

Reduction is addition of Hydrogen and removal of Oxygen to/from any molecule or atom.
