  • We first extract sulfur from different ores and rocks found on earth.
  • The sulfur extracted is burned in the excess air to produce sulfur dioxide, SO_{2}.
  • The sulfur dioxide is oxidized too in presence of vanadium peroxide which acts as a catalyst. It is converted to sulfur trioxide.
  • We need to add a diluted form of sulfur trioxide to sulphuric acid to produce oleum, H_{2}S_{2}O _{7}.
  • Oleum is then diluted too to form sulphuric acid, H_{2}SO_{4}.
