because holika was died by burning in fire which was plan of king hiranyakashchap to kill his son prahlad who always pray god, hence he ask his sister holika who had a cloth by taking it she cannot burn. And she seat in fire with prahlad by taking the cloth but prahlad started praying god and due to this holika get burn in the fire and prahlad was save therefore we celebrate this festival by doing holika dahan.
