For me, there are multiple things to learn from Gandh, for which I present his quotes.

1. "Be the change that you wish to see in the world."

2. "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."

3. "An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind"

4. "Whatever you do in life will be insignificant, but it's very important that you do it. Because nobody else will"

5. "The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed"

Of course, his lessons on truth, non-violence and non-violent methods of protest have become extremely important for a host of organizations fighting for various issues in different parts of our country and around the world. But he wanted a world with no hatred, only love and only peace.

I end on Gandhi's birthday with something he said for Ambedkar. Ambedkar, another great Indian figure, used to attack Gandhi with the choicest of words, many a times for the right things (such as Gandhi not outrightly rejecting the caste system). When Nehru asked Gandhi why did he not say anything about this, Gandhi said the following, which in my view, shows the respect Gandhi had for Ambedkar, a bitter critic of him, for right reasons:

"We should be grateful to him, for it's a mark of his self-restraint that he only calls us names and does not break our heads, considering how we have treated his people for centuries."
