According to Hardy Schulze rule:

1. The effective ions of the electrolyte in bringing about the coagulation are those which carry opposite to that of the colloidal particles. These ions are called coagulating ions or flocculating ions.

2. Greater is the valency of the coagulating ion, greater is its power to bring about the coagulation.

Thus in order to coagulate a negatively charged sol, the positive ions Al^{3+} will be most effective among Al^{3+} , Mg^{2+} and Na^{+}
