1.Elements are made up of only one type of atom and are pure substances , while a compound is made up of two or more types of atoms combined in a fixed ratio.

2.Since elements have only one type of atom, therefore the properties of the elements are represented by its atom. In case of a compound, the properties of a compound is very different from the elements its made of.

Example :- water is made of 2 atoms of H and one atom of O.Properties of water is so different from hydrogen and oxygen.

 \large \bold {Answer \: and \: Explanation:}

\bold \color{lime}{Elements}

  • An element is a substance that cannot be chemically decomposed into simpler substances. An atom is the smallest particle of an element that can take part in chemical reactions.
  • An element is a pure chemical substance made of same type of atom.
  • Elements contain only one type of atom.

 \bold \color {lime} {Compound}

  • A compound contains atoms of different elements chemically combined together in a fixed ratio.
  • Compounds contain different elements in a fixed ratio arranged in a defined manner through chemical bonds.
  • Compounds are represented by their chemical formula. For example, salt is represented by the formula NaCl.
