Explanation:

Habitat destruction is a serious threat to biodiversity. It leads to the distinction of a lot of species especially the endangered ones.

Now a days, habitat destruction has become more frequent due to rapid development. For example, road development involves the cutting of trees and clearing of land which causes the native species to leave their place.

Similarly, deforestation has become one of the biggest cause for habitat destruction.

Care must be taken at an early stage while doing the initial environmental impact assessment. If there is no other option but to remove or destroy the habitat, native species must be shifted first to another similar habitat.

Habitat destruction is recognised as most significant threat to global biodiversity

Explanation:

  • A habitat is a living place where that species or community of plants and animals survive. Destruction of that habitat is the process by which the habitat becomes incapable of supporting the species any longer and thereby forces the species to migrate in search of new habitat.
  • Due to the land-use changes all around the world forestlands, wetlands, and other natural habitats of the world are getting destroyed, depleted, and removed away.
  • As the expansion of land for agriculture, urbanization, and industrial uses is increasing at a faster rate. Most forest fires in the world today are due to the overuse of natural resources and climate change.
  • Introduction of new species that impact the environment and leads to the extinction of native species. Large-scale deforestation and destruction of forests have created desertification and a threat to global biodiversity.
