no james had not known or read of the island before visiting them with darwin and his experience would have been different because there was a variety of animals there unaccustomed to human company and so the animals would come close to them especcially the birds there and they could pet them and they would not fly away also for naturalists like Charles Darwin it would have been a great experience because he could study them up very close .
