I wish my dad was alive to see his granddaughter.
Since the time I remember I have seen my father playing with a baby. Any baby. A baby he meets in a train. A next door neighbour's baby. He wouldn't even let go of a baby he saw at a shopping mall.
Effortlessly he would ask the parent if he could hold the baby and play with him/her. I have never seen a parent saying no to my dad.
I remember him asking my brother and me to persuade my mom to have another baby! We were 12 and 16!
He was so crazy about kids. Babies, as young as 1 month olds, would sleep in his lap without a fuss. He would put Co-passenger's babies to sleep whenever he would travel. My mom used to tease that he should open a creche.
Such a wonderful man he was.
Sadly he passed away before he could see his granddaughter. I so wish he was there to hold her when she was born. To play with her and make her laugh. To kiss her when she plays the cute card. To see her sing rhymes with enthusiasm.
I am a generally a no regrets person. But this is my only regret.
Life isn't fair.
But still I wish. I wish when my daughter recognizes my dad in the photographs as “Tatha (grandfather) who is staying with god”, he could hear that and smile.
