If P(a/3 ,4) is the midpoint of the line segment joining the points Q(-6, 5) and R(-2, 3) , then find the value of 'a'.

P(a/3, 4) = [-6 + (-2)/2] , [5 + 3/2]  {By mid-point formula} ------------- (1)

=> [-6 -2/2 , 8/2]

=> [-8/2 , 4]

=>(-4, 4)

Therefore, from (1) ,

a/3 = -4

=> a = -4*3

       = -12
