Answer:

There are 72 deers in the herd.

Given:

  • Half of a herd of deer are grazing in the field
  • three fourths of the remaining are playing nearby.
  • rest 9 are drinking water from the pond.

To find:

  •  the  number of deer in the herd.

Solving Question:

Let us assume 'x' be the total number of deers .Then,according to the question ;

Half of a herd of deer are grazing in the field

Number of deer grazing = \dfrac{1}{2}x

[note: the remaining is only half of deers.]

three fourths of the remaining are playing nearby.

Number of deers playing = \dfrac{3}{4}(\dfrac{1}{2}x)\\\\\implies \dfrac{3}{8}

rest 9 are drinking water from the pond

\dfrac{1}{2}x+\dfrac{3}{8}x+9=x\:\:[x=total\:no.of\:deers]

Solution:

\dfrac{1}{2}x+\dfrac{3}{8}x+9=x\\\\\\\\\implies \dfrac{4x+3x+72}{8}=x\:[as\:L.C.M\:is\:8]\\\\\\\\\implies 4x+3x+72=8x\\\\or,\:7x+72=8x\\\\or,\:-x=-72\\\\\implies x=72

Thus , x = 72

∴ There are 72 deers in the herd.
