Let the number be x,



half of x =x/2
twice of x = 2*x

according to the question,

x/2  = 2x -21

x/2 + 21 = 2x

Taking LCM, (lcm = 2)

$\frac{x+42}{2}$ = 2x


x+42  = 2x*2

x +42 = 4x

42 = 4x-x

42 = 3x

42/3= x 

14 = x 

Now the number required here is 14
