Haloarenes can not be prepared by treating phenol with HX or NaX in the presence of sulphuric acid.why?

Phenols are resonance stabilised. The oxygen atom on phenol donates it lone pair to the conjugated system making a partial double bond between C=OH, This partial bond is difficult to break and hence haloarenes cannot be formed by treating phenol with HX
