because they want one electron to get more stable electronic configuration of noble gas. therefore they have high electron affinity.

example, fluorine on getting one electron attains electronic configuration of neon which is more stable.

Electron affinity is the amount of energy released when an electron is added to the outermost shell of the atom. Also halogens need just 1 electron . So they readily accept that one electron, releasing alot of energy, thus they have high electron affinity
