  • Hameed has built a cubical water tank with lid for his house, with each other edge 1.5m long. He gets the outer surface of the tank excluding the base, covered with square tiles of side 25cm. Find how much rupees he would spend on the tiles if the cost of the tiles is Rs. 360 per dozen.

\underline{\underline{\sf{\maltese\:\:Given}}}

  • The length of the each side of water tank = 1.5 m
  • Side of Square tiles = 25 cm
  • Cost of Tiles = Rs. 360 per dozen.

\underline{\underline{\sf{\maltese\:\:To\:Find}}}

  • Rupees he would spend on the tiles

\underline{\underline{\sf{\maltese\:\:Answer}}}

  • Cost of 180 tiles = Rs. 5400

\underline{\underline{\sf{\maltese\:\:Calculations}}}

From the question :

  • The length of the each side of water tank = 1.5 m

We know : 1 m = 100 cm

First Let's convert it into cm

⇒ 1.5 m = 100 × 1.5 cm

⇒ 1.5 m = 150 cm

  • Since Hameed is getting the five outer faces of tank covered with tiles he would need to know the surface area of tank, to decide on number of tiles required

Edge of Cubical Tank = 1.5 m

⇒ Edge of Cubical Tank = 150 cm

Surface Area of Tank = 5 × 150 cm × 150 cm

⇒ Surface Area of Tank = 5 × 150 × 150 cm²

⇒ Surface Area of Tank = 5 × 22500 cm²

⇒ Surface Area of Tank = 112500 cm²

Also :

  • Area of Square = Side × Side

Area of Each square tile = Side × Side

⇒ Area of Each square tile = 25 cm × 25 cm

⇒ Area of Each square tile = 625 cm²

So,

Number of Tiles Required = Surface Area of Tank / Area of Each Tile

⇒ Number of Tiles Required = 112500 cm² / 625 cm²

Cancelling "cm²" from both numerator and denominator

⇒ Number of Tiles Required = 112500 / 625

⇒ Number of Tiles Required = (25 × 4500) / (25 × 25)

⇒ Number of Tiles Required = 4500 / 25

⇒ Number of Tiles Required = 180

We are also given that :

  • Cost of Tiles = Rs. 360 per dozen.

Cost of Tiles = Rs. 360 per dozen.

⇒ Cost of Tiles = Rs. 360 per 12 pieces

Cost per piece = Rs. 360/12

⇒ Cost per piece = Rs. 30

Cost of 180 tiles = 180 × Rs. 30

⇒ Cost of 180 tiles = Rs. 30 × 180

⇒ Cost of 180 tiles = Rs. 5400
