Handlooms run manually. They need a lot of to make a single piece of cloth. Workers need to do a lot of hard work and energy to operate them. Based on the design selected it takes one to 7days to make a saree.

Powerlooms run on electricity. Assistance of man is less required. It takes 2 to 4 hours to make a saree based on the design selected. No hardwork,no manual energy is needed. Just select the design and machine will do its work.

Unfortunately,powerlooms are replacing handlooms which looks good because in less time production is more but it's disadvantages is it creates joblessness.

Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu were having more number of handlooms after independence but as the time passed demand and supply increased so powerlooms replaced handlooms.
