in physics conductors generally means the object that allows electricity to easily pass through them .

insulators are objects that do not allow electricity to pass through them

Substances can classified into three based on their conductivity. The energy band gap between valence band(vb) and conduction band (cb) is termed as band gap energy. Notated by Eg. if Eg is almost zero then it is termed as conductors. If Eg is higher such that no electrons from vb can enter into cb even after excitation. Then it is termed as insulator. Those which have Eg such that electrons from vb can enter into cb after some sort of excitation or doping is semiconductor. They can again be classified into intrinsic semiconductor( pure semiconductor ) or extrinsic semiconductor ( semiconductor which is doped with impurities). Extrinsic can again classified into ptype (doped with trivalent) and ntype( doped with pentavalent)
