holi is celebrated because this is Krishna's lovable festival.
one more reason is holika dehn.when a boy send with is younger brother in fired wood so that he will get burn.the sister will not get because she got ashirwad that she will never burn but she get burnt and other one not.this is because the boy used to workship daily and sister was too cruel.god also support those who are good by nature

there was a man who was wanted to kill his son because he was a great devotee to the Lord Vishnu . so he got an idea that he had a sister who's name was holika . she was blessed that she will never burn in fire . so the man had placed Holika and his son ,prahlad on a huge fire and when the fire was burning prahlad his son started to pray and instead of prahlad Holika got burned and died.


So in homes our mummy takes fast because of their sons protection
