The velocity of an object is the rate of changeof its position with respect to a frame of reference, and is a function of time....

VELOCITY

Velocity is the amount of displacement per unit time

UNIT

The unit of velocity = unit of displacement / unit of time

                                = m/s

EXAMPLES

If my displacement is 5 m in 5 s

then : velocity = 5 m / 5 s

                        = 1 m / s

Suppose you are running around a circular field .

displacement will be zero as you come back to your original position .

Thus the velocity is also zero in such a case !

IMPORTANT POINTS

  • Displacement is the change in your initial and final position
  • Velocity is a vector quantity requiring both direction and magnitude
  • Always check whether the displacement is proportional with change in time. For example : a body cannot move 5 m in 0 s time has to be more than 0 otherwise mathematical erro

Hope it helps :-)
