Reason for the celebration of this festival. The festival of Raksha Bandhan is observed as a symbol of duty between brothers and sisters. ... On this day, a sister ties a rakhi around the wrist of her brother in order to pray for his prosperity, health and well-being.

according to Hindu mythology ,
one incident had happened...........
when lord Vishnu went to Bali Chakravarthy to test him ,lord Vishnu asked Bali Chakravarthy to give him three roots of land ..........
and Bali Chakravarthy gave himself to lord Vishnu .................
so lord Vishnu stayed with Bali Chakravarthy for a long time ......
to take him to home , lord Vishnu's wife , Lakshmi went to Bali Chakravarthy and and him her brother........
from that period to present ,the festival of raksha Bandhan is celebrated.............
