It is possible to express the same idea using hardly/scarcely…when.

• Hardly had I entered the classroom when the teacher came in.

• Scarcely had I entered the classroom when the teacher came in.


So in this case.


Hardly had he reached the platform ———- the train arrived.


The answer should be.


Hardly had he reached the platform WHEN the train reached.
