The discount percent allowed by Hari on the article is 10 %.

• Let the cost price (C.P.) of the article be taken as Rs. 100.

• Given, profit % earned on the cost price = 25

∴  Marked price of the article (M.P.) = { (100 + profit %) / 100 } × C.P.

Or, M.P. = { (100 + 25) / 100 } × Rs. 100

Or, M.P. = (125 / 100) × Rs. 100

Or, M.P. = Rs. 125

• Given,

Reduced percentage of profit earned on allowing a discount = 12 whole (1/2) % = (25 / 2) % = 12.5 %

∴  New S.P. = { (100 + 12.5) / 100 } × Rs. 100

Or, New  S.P. = (112.5 / 100) × Rs. 100

Or, New S.P. = Rs. 112.5 -(i)

• Discount % = ?

Let the discount allowed be x.

Selling price (S.P.) = M.P. - Discount

=> S.P. = Rs. 125 - x -(ii)

• According to the question,

Equation (i) = Equation (ii)

=> Rs. 112.5 = Rs. 125 - x

Or, x = Rs. 125 - Rs. 112.5

Or, x = Rs. 12.5

∴   Discount allowed on the article = Rs. 12.5

• Now, discount percent = (Discount / M.P.) × 100 %

=> Discount percent = (Rs. 12.5 / Rs. 125) × 100 %

= (1 / 10) × 100 %

= 10 %

∴   Percentage of discount allowed on the article = 10 %
