Hari Singh, being a thief, felt that it would be difficult to cheat a person like Anil. Anil was a kind man and had offered to educate Hari.  Hari knew that learning was not as easy as robbing. Hari was more worried about losing Anil's trust and that prevented him from cheating Anil.  

He knew that Anil would not be much bothered about losing his money and would accept it, but Hari knew that gaining Anil's trust was much more important. Cheating someone was easy for Hari, but trying not to cheat Anil was difficult.

For some people, preserving certain values like being honest and thankful is very important.

It is true that people are becoming materialistic and hard hearted .But it is also true that people like Anil and Hari Singh are still found in real life also. But their number is very small.
