Given,

  • Hari walks from his home at 5km/hr and reaches his office 3 minutes late.
  • By increasing speed by 1km/per hr he reaches 3 min early.

To find,

The distance of his office from home

Solution,

Let the distance of his office be a km.

Let the time taken to reach punctually = t

Now, with the speed of 5km/hr, time taken is = (t + 0.05)hr

5 = \frac{a}{t + 0.05} \\5t + 0.25 = a -------eq(1)

With speed increased by 1km/hr, time taken is = (t - 0.05)hr

6 = \frac{a}{t - 0.05}\\6t - 0.3 = a ----------eq(2)

From eq(1) and eq(2),

a = 0.55km = 550m

Therefore, the distance of his office from home is 550m.

Answer:

The distance of his office from home is 3 km.

Step-by-step explanation:

As per the data given in the question,

We know,

Distance=Speed\times Time...........(i)

Given that,

Initial speed of Hari = 5 km/hr

Increased speed of Hari = 5+1= 6km/hr

Difference in reaching time = 3min+3min = 6 min=  \frac{1}{10} hour

Let the distance of office to house be D

so, putting in (i) and relating it to time difference,

\frac{D}{5} -\frac{D}{6} =\frac{1}{10} \\                (As, \frac{Distance}{Speed} =Time)

\frac{6D-5D}{30} =\frac{1}{10} \\\frac{D}{30} =\frac{1}{10}\\ D= \frac{1}{10} \times 30\\D= 3\: km

So, the distance of his office from home is 3 km.
