Harish rolled down a small steelball from the edgeA of a glass bowl as shown. There is no friction between the surfaces of the ball and the bowl. What will happen? *

It will stop at centre point C after a number of to and fro motions

It will not move at all since friction id required for movement

The ball will roll out of the glass bowl near edge B

It will keep moving between point A and B and will never stop

Option D

Explanation:

It will keep moving between point A and B as there is no friction and the only force acting is gravity.

Answer:

The correct answer is 'D' i.e., It will keep moving between point A and B and will never stop.

Explanation:

According to first law of motion, if a body is in rest then it will always remain in rest and if a body is in motion then it will remain in motion until and unless an external force applied on it. This is also called the Law of Inertia. As harish rolled down a steel ball on a frictionless surface which means there is no opposing force for stopping the motion of the ball. So, if harish left the ball from edge A then it will reach to B and again comes back to A according to the inertia of motion of a body. And the motion will obtain a to and fro motion and hence it will never stop in the absence of frictional force. Therefore, the correct statement is " It will keep moving between point A and point B and will never stop.
