Harleen began peeling a pile of 44 potatoes at the rate of 3 potatoes per minute. Four minutes later Chetan joined her and peeled at the rate of 5  potatoes per  minute. When they finished, how many potatoes had Chetan peeled?

Harleen peeled alone after 4 minutes = 4 x 3 = 12 potatoes. So potatoes that is left will be    44 – 12 = 32 potatoes.

Chetan joins her, and both of them are peeling at the rate of 3 + 5 = 8 potatoes per minute. So they finish peeling after another 32/8 = 4 minutes. So in 4 minutes, Chetan peeled 4 x 5 = 20 potatoes.
