The following are few of the many harmful bacterial activities-

  • Diseases- There exist a lot of species of bacteria that are pathogenic and an interesting fact about them is most of the pathogenic bacteria are gram -ve.
  • Cotton Spoilage- It is done by a bacteria named Spirochaete cytophage.
  • Food poisoning- Also known as botulism, this is caused by a bacteria named Clostridium botulinum.
  • Reduction of soil fertility- tHere exist some denitrifying bacteria in the soil that convert nitrites into free nitrogen, the process of which is known as denitrification. Examples- Bacillus denitrificans , Micrococcus denitrificans and Thiobacillus denitrificans.
