ANSWER

Let the score in the first test be x

Harpreet's score in second test is 10 more than that in the first.

So, his score in the second test = x+10

5 times the score of the second test is the same as square of the score in the second test.

5(x+10)=x

2

⇒5x+50=x

2

⇒x

2

−5x−50=0

⇒x

2

−10x+5x−50=0

⇒x(x−10)+5(x−10)=0

⇒(x+5)(x−10)=0

⇒x=10,−5

The score is not negative so, Harpreet scored 10 marks in second.

Answer:

10

Step-by-step explanation:

Let marks scored for Ist test = x

10 marks scored more than Ist test in IInd test = 10+x

5 times of score of second test = square of Ist test score

5(10+x)=x²

x²=50+5x

x*x-5*x=50 (Here, x and x get cancelled, so the remaining will be 5x)

5x=50

x=50/5

x=10

So marks scored in Ist test is x

And x is 10
