Harriet visited Ronald's family after winning 1400 jellybeans in a math olympiad. She kept 250 for herself and brought the rest to be shared among Ronald and his brothers. Harriet gave Ronald another 250 and told Percival, Freddie, and Georgie to divide the rest of the beans according to the ratios of their ages, which added up to 45 years. The jellybeans were thus distributed: For every four Percival took, Freddie took three, and for every six Percival took, Georgie took seven.
What was the difference between Georgies's age and the number of jellybeans he got?

a)266
b)174
c)289
d)168

Solution :-

→ Total Jellybeans = 1400

→ Kept by harriet = 250

so,

→ Left Jellybeans to be distributed = 1400 - 250 = 1150 .

now,

→ Ronald gets Jellybeans = 250

so,

→ Left Jellybeans to be distributed between three brothers = 1150 - 250 = 900 .

now,

→ 3F = 4P

→ F : P = 4 : 3

and,

→ 6P = 7G

→ P : G = 7 : 6

then,

→ F : P : G = (4*7 : 3*7 : 3*6) = 28 : 21 : 18

therefore,

→ Georgies's age = (18/67) * 45 = (810/67)

→ Number of jellybeans Georgie got = (18/67) * 900 = (16200/67)

hence,

→ Required difference = (16200/67) - (810/67) = (15390/67) ≈ 230 (Ans.)
