Given: Harry traveled a distance of 60 km in 10 hrs, he traveled at the speed 3 km/h on foot and partly by his car at 9 km/h.

To Find: Distance traveled on foot?

Solution:

  • Very first let the distance traveled by foot be x. then the distance traveled by car will be (60 - x)
  • Now we know that speed = distance / time
  • So time taken to travel on foot will be  x/3 and Time taken to travel on car will be (60 - x)/9.
  • So now the total time for travelling is 10 hrs, so adding both, we get:

          x/3 + (60 - x)/9 = 10

         3x + (60 - x) = 90

         2x + 60 = 90

         2x = 30

         x = 15 km

Answer:

         Distance traveled on foot by harry is 15 km.
