Harsha and Franklin both of them are postgraduates in management under different streams from the same B-School. Both of them are close friends from the college days. Their friendship has continued in the organization too as they are placed in the same company, Hy-tech technology solutions. Harsha is placed in the HR department as employee counsellor and Franklin in the finance department as a key finance executive. So far as the grade is concerned both are at the same level but when it comes to responsibility, Franklin holds more responsibility being in core finance. By nature, Harsha is friendly and ready to help the needy. Franklin is quiet by nature. He shows willingness to help only if approached personally. He is a bit egoistic by nature. Both, Harsha and Franklin have successfully completed 4 years in the organization. Management is very much satisfied with both of them as they are equally talented and constant performers. Harsha has now started feeling that Franklin is not the same as he uses to be in the past. She noticed some behavioural changes in him. Franklin has now started taunting Harsha for her popularity in the organisation. One morning Mr. Mehta, General Manager Hy-tech technology solutions, was shocked to receive a mail from Franklin about his resignation. Mr. Mehta called Harsha immediately and discussed the same as she was closely associated to Franklin. On hearing the news Harsha herself got stunned as she was unaware about this decision of Franklin. Mr. Mehta was firmly determined to not allow either Harsha or Franklin leave the organisation. He decided to take the charge of the situation. In the afternoon Mr. Metha took Franklin to Canteen to make him comfortable. After some general discussion he started a talk on the issue. Franklin, after some hesitation, revealed his thought to Mr. Mehta. Franklin said- 1) “When I come alone to canteen people don’t even recognize me but if I am accompanied by Harsha I get well treated by others.” 2) “One day we both entered the company together. The security in the gate wished both of us. But the next day when I came alone the same security did not do so.” 3) “Even in meetings held in the office, the points raised by Harsha get more value. So many times I remain silent in the meeting.” Franklin also questioned that “Harsha and I have same qualification from the same institute, we passed out in the same year and we both scored first class. We have the same number of experiences in this organization. Moreover, the responsibilities with me are more valuable than that of Harsha. Despite all these things, if I am been ignored or unrecognized by the fellow employees my ego does not allow me to continue here”.
