Yes , local self government has been successful in getting the local participation , thus encouraging the spirit of democracy that is greater participation of people . There is a greater number of women representatives as 1/3 rd of seats are reserved for women .
But still , the meetings that are to be organised by the local self-government bodies like municipality and panchayats are not held regularly . They have also not been given adequate power and resources by the state governments.
