There is no increase in the number of lakes in Chennai.  

As per the reports, there were nearly 3,600 lakes sustained across the premises of Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur. Now most of them were abducted by flats and apartments. Chennai kept extending its area since the year 2000 and it keeps extending. Almost it has gobbled its own lakes and pond in the name of development.
