Dear Student,

◆ Answer - (ii)

Isotones have equal number of neutrons.

● Extra information -

  • Atoms of same element having same no of protons but different no of neutrons are called isotopes. For example, 6C12 and 6C14.
  • Atoms having same number of nucleons are called isobars. For example, 18Ar40 and 19K40.
  • Atoms of different elements having same no of neutrons but different no of protons are called isotones. For example, 6C13 and 7N14.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...

Answer:

Isotones have equal number of neutrons.

Explanation:

The nucleus of an atom is made up of the protons or positive charged bodies, and the neutrons are neutral bodies. When the nuclei of two atoms have the same’ number of neutrons’ they are called ‘isotones’.

For example: chlorine-37 and potassium -39 are said to be isotones. This is because the nucleus of chlorine has 17 protons and hence 20 neutrons (37-17). Similarly the potassium nucleus has 19 protons and 20 neutrons (39-19).
