Answer:

A loved one remains a loved one forever for sure.

We cannot measure love with the utility of a loved one as we do to a thing.

A thing can become useless over time and sold either as scrap or set aside as a memory. A loved one will have to cared for, hugged and smiled at and be there for each other for lifetime.

The nature of relationship matters too to determine to what extent of time we are with a loved one .
