What was your worst experience of a thunderstorm?

Worst is the wrong word, The most dramatic I experienced was back in the early 1980’s when I lived in a small village just south of Bath here in the UK. It was about 2am and we had some thunderstorms approaching I had just checked a neighbors house and their dogs as the owners were away on holiday. I was standing outside my front door watching the amazing lightning display from the storms which were 5–6 miles away. All of a sudden there was a blinding flash with a concussing explosive blast. I had not been hit but the blast blew me through our front door and I was left speadeagled against the

What was your worst experience of a thunderstorm?

Two weeks ago in the area where I live (western part of Boyaca Department Colombia) there were heavy thunderstorms. A lightning struck one of the electric poles in my camp and it destroyed several things at one go.

Most of the electronic goods like television that were plugged in were destroyed by the power surge. Electrical cables and electrical transformer were damaged. The whole camp was plunged in to darkness. A back up generator supplied power only for a few hours a day in one block in the camp where all of us squeezed in and worked.

The lightning also impacted the power supply system in the surrounding community and for two days there was no power and no internet. Most of our mobile phones were drained and mobile service network also went off.

It was a very new experience. I had lived in this type of environment in the past (with hurricane lamps, living in tents, no communication facility, remote country side) but after getting used to all gadgets and suddenly everything not functioning gave a peculiar feeling. I felt very insecure.
