to help someone is a great virtue of human character yes of course every person helps someone or the other in some way and I don't think there is a reason to help when we know that someone is crying we try to console him when someone wants food we give him when someone wants our help in study matters we help him the most common thing behind helping someone is that we know that if we are helping them in some coming future they will help us also I think this is a common reason however there are some people who have a selfish motive of helping someone but as far as I know the motive of help should be selfless and with the full devotion and by answer this question I am helping you because I believe that if I had answered your question you will answer mine
