It was a cloudy evening. I was walking out of my school along with my bicycle wondering how to spend the 5 bucks for the day that I have in my pocket. When I got onto my bicycle and was about to speed up to my house, I could see a cheering crowd with joy and laughter being spread around.
I got enthusiastic enough and the colourful crowd attracted the vision of my eyes.
Bliss! I could see two monkeys with human clothes on and jumping up and down a juggler. Once I paved my way close to the show, the monkey man walked towards me and said, “Our Chotu wants a handshake of appreciation from you”. Not being totally aware of the event taking place, I said “ok!”, with puzzled eyes. The man spoke to one of the monkeys in a language unknown to the audience. The monkey walked to me and gave me its hand offering for a handshake. That cute little monkey actually made my day. Till date, I do not know how that monkey could understand that the man was speaking about me and a handshake in that huge crowd.
The monkeys continued to perform summersaults and each feat performed by the monkeys was an awestruck moment. Every now and then, or after each summersault, the monkeys would clap and cheer for themselves with a huge smile and their wide teeth. Every time they smiled, the crowd would burst into laughter.
To our surprise, the monkeys were cycling and dancing. The funniest part was when a monkey started singing using an imaginary microphone in its hands. The expressions of the monkeys, the way they were surprised whenever the crowd gets surprised was hilarious.
Not a single minute of the show was boring. The monkey man and the monkeys enlightened my shady day. Oh well! Then I knew how to spend my five bucks. I headed back home, with an overwhelming heart and a little thought. What an art it is to befriend animals and make them a source of happiness and a source of living.
I did see a monkey wallah show when I went Mumbai on summer vacations with my parents.
We went to see the India gate when I saw a monkey dancing on the commands of a man.
I was so happy. Soon my father paid the man and the monkey showed us a dance. We fed the monkey some food the man handed over in my hands. Seems i made a friend.
