Generally, garbage is decomposed by the red worms.

Red worms plays an important role in the decomposition and conversion of garbage into decompost which is useful for the fertilization of soil.

(b)        Yes. May be a pit contains other soil microbes like earthworms, bacterial, etc.

Some other species of earth worms are also present. The worms include brandling worm and red wiggler worm.
