A tendril is a slender threadlike strand, which is produced usually from the node of a stem.

  • The main function of the tendril is to provide support to the plant as it climbs up a structure. By doing so they allow a plant to find a more suitable area to grow due to more light.
  • When stems are modified into tendrils they help plants to climb.
  • The positions of tendrils are different in different plants like in stems, leaves, or even branches of plants.
  • Although it lacks a lamina, it is capable of photosynthesis.
