by using Euclid's devision lemma --

we put first equation ,

20 and 16

1st we divide 20 /16

=16 ×1+ 4

2nd we divide 16 / 4

= 4 ×4 +0

3rd we divide 4/4

= 4×1 +0

then ,

your answer is

4 is HCF of 20 and 16 .
