heya!!

here is your answer -

> He asked me, “are you going out of station?” I replied, “yes.”

He asked me if i was going out of station. I replied in affirmative.

> Reasons - As the first sentence was interrogative, "if" is used. And in the second sentence, "Yes" is used, the sentence is being replied with affirmative.

# hope it helps!

Conversion of direct speech into indirect speech:

He asked me if I was going out of station. I replied in the affirmative.
            or
He asked me whether I was going out of station.  I replied affirmatively.

        or
He inquired if I was going out of station. I replied positively.

First sentence:
Since it was an interrogative phrase in the quotes, we use "if" or "whether" while writing the indirect speech.  We do not write with "that" like in "He asked me that ..."

Second sentence
Since the reply is "yes", we say "replied in the affirmative" or "replied affirmatively".  If the reply is "no", then the reported speech will be  "replied in the negative" or "replied negatively".
