TC is the total cost = Rs.96 into paise = 9600 paise.

R is the rate = 40 paise.

The length of the carpet is  $L=\frac{9600}{40}$

$L=240$

According to question,

$240\times \frac{80}{100}=16\times x$

$x=\frac{240\times 80}{16\times 100}$

$x=12$

Therefore, The width of the hall is 12 meter.
