step by step explanation :

Given,

Given, Cost price of both a shirt and a tie = Rs. 516 ......(1)

Let the Cost of shirt = x

Let the Cost of tie = y

Therefore, cost of both = x + y ........(2)

From (1) and (2) ,

x + y = Rs. 516. ...........(3)

According to statement,

cost of tie = 30% of 1/3 of cost of shirt + 1/3 of cost of shirt

y = 30/100*1x/3 + 1x/3

y = 3/10*1x/3 + 1x/3

y = 1/10x + 1x/3

y = (3 + 10)x / 30

y = 13x /30 ...........(4)

Now put this value of y in Equation (3)

x + (13x)/30 = 516

(30x + 13x)/ 30 = 516

43x / 30 = 516

43x = 516*30

43x = 15480

x = 15480/43

x = 360

Putting value of x in Equation (4)

y = (13*360)/30

y = 4680/30

y = 156

Now ,

Cost price of shirt = x = Rs. 360

Cost price of tie = y = Rs. 156
