The above sentence is just a simple dialogue by the persom, which is denoting a simple statement. Thus, the reporting verb will simply be said/told. Then, as we know that here and yesterday are changed after the conversion of direct to indirect.

  • Here - There
  • Yesterday - The previous day

Direct- He said, "I came here yesterday".

Indirect- He told/said that he came there the previous day.

How to change direct to indirect.....?!

  • Using a linker like that for joining the speaker's part and his dialogue.
  • The pronouns like I, We etc. are changed according to the sense.
  • If Reporting verb is past tense, then we do necessary changes like: Simple Present to Simple past, present perfect to past perfect etc.
  • Changing of time and place expressions like now, here, today, tomorrow, yesterday etc. to then, there, that day, previous day, the next day etc.

Examples.....!!

  • Direct- He said,"I am eating now".
  • Indirect - He said that he is eating then.
  • Direct- Rita said," I will watch the movie tomorrow."
  • Indirect- Rita said that she would watch the movie the next day.
