Change the narration in the following sentence:-

  • He said that he had been working.

Answer:-

He said , “I have been working.”

How the tense changed?

  • Direct Speech- Saying exactly what someone has said is called direct speech.
  • Ex:- She said, "I am writing a letter to my mother".

  • Indirect Speech- Reporting someone's thought which he/she had said, without using that person's exact words. It is also called as Reported speech.
  • Ex:- She told that she was writing a letter to her mother.

ʀᴜʟᴇs:-

➢Use the reporting verb such as say or said to in its correct tense.

➢Insert a comma before the statement and the first letter of the statement should be in capital letter.

➢Insert question mark, quotation marks, exclamation mark and full stop, based on the mood of the sentence.

➢Remove the conjunctions.

➢Change the tense properly as per rules.
