In English there are 2 types of speeches that are:-

  • Direct speech
  • Indirect speech

Direct speech:-

Direct speech – Saying something directly by using the exact words of the speaker is known as direct speech.

  • While writing, the original words of the person should be always written inside inverted commas.

Example:- I said, "I will be going to school from tomorrow".

Indirect speech:-

Indirect speech – It can be defined as, saying something what the speaker had said but by making some modifications.

  • Inverted commas should be ignored while writing, in case of indirect speech.
  • It must be in past tense except in two cases: (a) If it's a universal/generel verity (b) If it's reporting verb is in present or future tense.

Example:- I said that I would be going to school from the next day. [Here, the indirect speech of the above given example is given].
